I'd like to add my congratulations to the new Head Girl and Head Boy, as well as to the new Prefects. Sophia, Al, and Lily, I'm very happy for you and I'm sure you'll do well. Here's to a good year yeah? | | Sunday, August 8th, 2010 | | 3:27 pm |
The past couple of days have been quite busy. My parents, Fred and I went to the trials this weekend. Which of course being a quidditch event, we saw pleanty of fellow Weasleys. All kidding aside, I had a good time even if Mum was working part of the time. She did manage to spend time with former teammates who were there as scouts, so her day wasn't all business. I am now very excited for intramural quidditch, and can't wait for it to start. Who knows, maybe if my career plans don't come together I can try out next year.
Speaking of career choices, my internship is finished. I'll write more on that later. I have one of the new flowns that has SMS capability, though I'm not sure how much I'll use it. So far though I have been getting very weird messages. | | Saturday, July 10th, 2010 | | 11:09 pm |
It has been decidedly busy at home of late. Mostly thanks to getting Fred packed and moved. He's decided that now that he's graduated, he can finally move out. I'm not sure I'd want to share a flat after sharing a room for so long here at school, but he's moving in with some of his roommates. Mum seems to be okay now, though sometimes I wonder.
As for me, I've interviewed for an internship with the Obliviators, and hope to hear back soon. For now, I'm working at the shop in the office. How's everyone else's holiday going? | | Sunday, April 18th, 2010 | | 9:58 pm |
It's been a busy week of sorts. Finished my application and essay for the Honor Society, added an extra foot on my charms essay, and managed to find a dress for the dance. Fairly productive, if I say so my self. Very pleased with how the performance at St. Mungo's went. Being on stage instead of behind the scenes was both interesting and fun, though I'll probably stay behind the scenes most of the time. | | Sunday, April 4th, 2010 | | 12:46 am |
Even though Mum doesn't usually do excessive cleaning, the upcoming holiday dinner is bringing out the worst. I think it's because her mum is visiting and if there's any dust to be found, she'll find it. Grandpa tends to be more relaxed, and tries to lighten things up. I figure dinner should be an interesting occasion tomorrow.
I've been helping in the shop along with Fred, though mostly I've been going over the books and organizing the office. I'm convinced that Dad leaves everything in one box and waits for me to come home and sort it out. I've tried to show him how my organizing system works, but it never seems to make sense to him.
Other than the spring cleaning, I'm enjoying being home. It's nice to visit the family and have a breather from Hogwarts every once in awhile. And usually by the time the end of the holidays comes around, I'm ready to go back to school. I love my family, but it's kind of nice to be own my own, you know?
Here's hoping that everyone has a happy Easter, and doesn't eat too much candy. | | Monday, February 15th, 2010 | | 2:50 am |
Three Monday 15 February
I hope everyone had a Happy Valentine's Day. Mum and Dad sent chocolate and biscuits, which was quite appreciated.
The topic of hazing seems to have taken over the common room. I can't imagine wanting to be a part of something so badly that I'd allow myself to be hazed. Hopefully whatever happened (if anything at all) isn't a common occurrence here at Hogwarts. | | Monday, February 8th, 2010 | | 2:41 pm |
Two People are seriously concerned about a squid invasion? Sometimes I wonder about the younger students. I'm looking forward to the Apparition lesson this weekend, I've been reading up on it and hopefully will be able to successfully put theory into practice. Fred's been trying to scare me with horror stories, but in my mind if he can successfully get through the course, I can.
Word of the Day: enthrall • \in-THRAWL\
1 : to hold in or reduce to slavery
2 : to hold spellbound : charm
In Middle English, "enthrallen" meant "to hold in thrall." "Thrall" then, as now, meant "bondage" or "slavery"; it comes from an Old Norse word, "thraell," which is probably related to an Old High German word for servant. But we rarely use even this sense of mental or moral enslavement anymore. Today the word is often used in its participle form, "enthralled," which sometimes means "temporarily spellbound" ("we listened, enthralled, to the old woman's oral history"), but more often suggests a state of being generally captivated, delighted, or taken by some particular thing. | | Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010 | | 7:01 am |
one The mini brooms have been quite entertaining, although like many people I'm having a hard time getting the confetti out of my hair. I am however looking forward to the intramural quidditch games, my team has been practicing so hopefully we'll do well.
I'm mostly caught up on my homework thus far, though going over my Potions assignment might not be a bad idea. Anyway, I'm off to the Library before my next class. I'll leave you with the word of the day, which may or may not be updated daily.
The Word of the Day for 02 February is: evanescent (ev-uh-NESS-unt): tending to vanish like vapor
Example Sentence: "Dance is the most evanescent of the arts, evaporating into memory the instant it's completed." | | Friday, January 29th, 2010 | | 2:08 am |
